Medinah

When we are asked to create flyovers we usually create a separate camera for each hole, but OCM had something else in mind for their proposed renovation of Course #3 at Medinah Country Club. In order to help the members understand their proposed layout they felt it was important to show the relationship between holes, so they asked if we could create a flyover of holes 13 to 18, short course and putting green in a single camera movement.

From a technical perspective this was probably our most challenging project to date. In order to achieve the ‘single shot’ style of animation we had to develop new techniques for controlling the camera and lighting.

We worked closely with OCM on every aspect of the animation, from the camera movement to the character of the proposed design, in particular the treatment of the lake edge, rock work, bunker style and feature rough.

We also received drone footage courtesy of Andy Johnson (The Fried Egg) which was invaluable when recreating the existing site conditions, such as the bridges across Lake Kadijah, the retained trees and iconic clubhouse.

Update:
The animation was viewed over 30,000 times across social media in the first two weeks and the membership voted overwhelmingly in favour of the plan to renovate Course #3.

Fun Fact

If you watch closely you will see the sun moving during the animation. We did this so every hole was shown in the best light.
